Responsibilities

Reporting to Accounting Manager (Controller if no Accounting Manager), the Staff Accountant will be responsible for

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparing, posting and recording of journal entries to the general ledger for the month-end and year-end close
  • Performing the monthly reconciliations of general ledger accounts such as Cash, Prepaid Expenses, Fixed Assets, and Accruals in multi-company environment       
  • Assisting in preparing the period-end financial statements for the Corporate Office and foreign subsidiaries
  • Participating in the international financial closing process with responsibility for certain companies and G/L accounts
  • Maintaining effective and efficient communications with foreign accounting teams as needed
  • Contributing to business process improvements, systems enhancements, set up of improved policies and procedures in respective areas of responsibility
  • Assisting in the internal and external audit processes and supporting schedules
  • Assisting Corporate Accounting Manager in performing analysis and creating reports for senior management including variance analysis, financial review and Smart Lists
  • Supporting the Accounting department on the consolidated monthly close activities
  • Assist with preparing monthly P&L by each owned vessel and recording monthly/quarterly interest and payments related to ship financing.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Exercising critical thinking in operational, financial, or transactional analysis to identify and help resolve any issues that may arise during close process
  • Various ad hoc financial reporting and accounting analysis projects, as required
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Primary Competencies or Non-Negotiables:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from accredited U.S college is required
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience preparing, analyzing, and reporting consolidated financial statements in computerized ERP environment 
  • Good working knowledge of tier-1 or tier-2 ERP system required (Great Plains GP preferred, Navision, NetSuite, Oracle or SAP)
  • Strong general ledger entry and reconciliations skills in ERP system required
  • Advanced proficiency with Excel including use of Pivot Tables, VLookups and  graphs as well as the ability to use FRx/ Management Reporter/ BI Tools/Crystal Reports or similar reporting packages
  • Exposure to preparation of international accounting statements is a plus
  • The ability to drive results to completion in timeline sensitive environments
  • CPA, CMA, CIA or MSA a plus
  • Some experience with consolidation of financials in multi-entity, multi-currency environment
  • Experience working in service industry, leisure, travel & tourism a big plus
